With tax-free income, great schooling, fantastic opportunities, plenty of top restaurants, family attractions and things to do, it’s easy to see why so many expats want to live in Dubai.

Most people move to the country with a job offer (this means that your visa and healthcare are sorted), which is the easiest way, but sometimes people wish to move overseas and not work at all (lucky you).

Is this you? Don’t worry this doesn’t mean that you can’t relocate as there are several UAE self-sponsored visa options.

Own property worth at least Dhs750,000 in Dubai? You can apply for the Property Investor Visa via the Dubai Land Department and there’s no need for employment.

If the property is mortgaged, you’ll need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and a property mortgage statement from your bank.

If the property is completed and not under construction then you’ll need proof that you’ve paid 50 percent of the entire property value.

Documents needed are:

  • The property’s title deed
  • Copy of the initial sale certificate
  • A No-Objection-Certificate (NOC) from the bank (if the property is mortgaged)
  • A marriage certificate (if you own the house with your partner)
  • Copy of your current UAE visa
  • Emirates ID
  • Passport photo.

You’ve probably heard about the UAE Golden Visa and if you get one you’ll have long-term residency.

UAE golden visa holders can remain living, working and studying in the country for the entirety of their visa, with or without gaining local or other employment.

The holder can work for themselves, or another company (local or otherwise) without the need for individual sponsorship. Unlike the standard residency visa, the UAE golden visa permits holders to remain in the country long-term without employment.

Lots of people can apply, including:

  • Entrepreneurs who own a business in the UAE with an annual revenue of Dhs1 million or more.
  • Individuals who own a property in the UAE worth more than Dhs2million.
  • High-performing students in UAE secondary schools and graduates with high academic performance at UAE universities or one of the best 100 universities worldwide. These students can then even sponsor their families.
  • Humanitarian pioneers including volunteers with a total of 500 hours dedicated to good deeds.

Golden visa holders can sponsor family members for 10 years along with multiple domestic workers — there’s no cap on how many.

Over the age of 55 and want to spend your golden years in the Dubai sunshine? People over 55 can apply for a visa to retire in Dubai.

To qualify you must be at least 55 years old and have valid medical insurance covering the UAE. You must also own a property in the country that is not mortgaged and is worth no less than Dhs2 million or have a bank deposit in the UAE of no less than Dhs1 million. You must also provide proof that you have a monthly income of no less than Dhs15,000 for Dubai or Dhs20,000 elsewhere in the UAE.

Documents needed are:

  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of marriage certificate copy (if sponsoring the spouse),
  • Copy of visa (If applicant is a resident of UAE),
  • Copy of Emirates IDs (if applicant is a current resident in UAE),
  • Eligibility evidence
  • Valid health insurance policy covering UAE.

You can renew the visa as long as you continue to meet the financial requirements, and the five-year renewable retirement residency visa is available to the person, spouse and their children.

1-year remote working visa is for those who love their current job and are allowed to work remotely. If you want a remote working visa, you must apply through the Visit Dubai Visa portal.

To apply for a remote working visa in Dubai you need a passport valid for a minimum of six months as well as valid health insurance and to provide proof of a minimum monthly income of USD3,500.

If you are an employee then you must provide proof of employment with a contract valid for one year from your current employer, earn a salary of a minimum USD 5,000 per month and provide a salary slip for the last month and bank statements for the preceding three months.

Company owners need to show proof of ownership of the company for one year or more, with an average monthly income of USD 5,000 per month and three preceding months’ bank statements.

You can also bring your family as after you have successfully obtained a remote working visa you can then apply for dependents.
