Dubai has put 350 fancy number plates up for auction to collectors and investors.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is offering number plates comprised of two-digit plates for vintage vehicles and motorbikes in addition to three, four and five-digit plates for private vehicles bearing (A-G-H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-P-Q-R-S-T-U-V) codes.

The auction is the 71st in RTA’s online auctions for distinguished licensing numbers.

Registration of bidders for this online auction started on Monday, May 22, and the bidding process kicks off at 8am on Monday, May 29,.

The auction will last for five days only.

The selling of licensing plates in this auction is subject to a 5 per cent VAT.

Each bidder is required to have a Traffic File opened in Dubai, deposit a security cheque amounting to AED5,000 made to RTA, and pay an un-refundable participation fee of AED120.

In April Dubai’s “P 7” number plate set a new record as the most expensive license plate in the world after a bidder paid Dh55 million ($15m) for it.
