Mubadala has officially broken ground on what promises to be one of Abu Dhabi’s most striking new landmarks.

And it involves a glowing 30-metre sphere, over 1,000 AI-powered water jets and a soundtrack by Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi.

Construction is already underway on the Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project, a bold new development that will reshape the coastline of Al Maryah Island into a high-design playground for residents and visitors. Think mesmerising water shows, cooling sea breezes and plenty of places to dine, wander and unwind.

At the heart of the revamp is the luminous sphere – a glowing orb set dramatically in the bay, surrounded by jets of water shooting 75 metres into the sky. These choreographed water features will respond to music and light, all powered by AI and created by famed water design studio WET, the same minds behind the Dubai Fountain and LA’s Bellagio counterpart.

Beyond the fountain theatrics, the upgraded waterfront will include a new sea-level boardwalk, shaded outdoor cooling zones for summer strolls, fresh foodie zones and spaces tailored for public events.

There’s no opening date as of yet, but once complete, the new-look Al Maryah Waterfront will be one of the capital’s top places to relax, recharge and take in some truly next-level waterworks.

Dr. Bakheet Al Katheeri, CEO of UAE Investments, Mubadala said: “The Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project is a strategic investment in the future of Al Maryah Island. This project will deliver iconic elements that elevate the quality of life and offer a diverse experience for visitors, while reinforcing the island’s position as a premier lifestyle destination.”
