Etihad Rail bans popular items from carriages

Passengers on Etihad Rail will be allowed to bring their domestic pets on board, but e-scooters and e-bikes are prohibited

The maiden passenger service of Etihad Rail between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah got underway on Tuesday, and the operator also announced its list of travel policies.

Pet lovers will be delighted to know that their loyal companions can travel with them.

However, owners of e-scooters, e-bikes and bicycles will have to leave their beloved items at home.

Etihad Rail confirmed that dogs and falcons will be allowed on board providing they are transported in an approved carrier that measuring no more than 55cm by 40cm by 23cm.

Passengers bringing a pet on board will count towards their standard carry-on luggage allowance.

However, pets must remain inside the designated carrier at all times during the journey, with one pet carrier permitted per passenger.

Etihad Rail stated that trained and certified assistance dogs are allowed to travel, but they must be booked in advance through the operators Contact Centre.

The newly-released guidance also outlined how passengers using wheelchairs or other mobility aids will be accommodated, although only electric wheelchairs fitted with integrated manufacturer-installed batteries will be accepted.

Again, dedicated wheelchair spaces must be reserved when booking.

The Abu Dhabi-Fujairah route is about one hour and 45 minutes, with trains travelling at speeds of up to 200kph.

The service marks the first phase of Etihad Rail’s passenger network, which will eventually connect 11 cities and regions across the country.
