It’s the new UAE rail service that we all can’t wait to hop on.

And Etihad Rail will soon start running a passenger service that is ferrying people to and from Abu Dhabi to the Al Dhannah region.

Sadly, the route will only be for specific people — those who work for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) but nonetheless, it’s a great sign for those of us counting down the days to being able to take a trip on Etihad Rail.

The route is the result of a partnership between Etihad Rail and Adnoc, which allows employees to travel between Abu Dhabi and Al Dhannah, Wam announced.

“The UAE’s railway network is a key contributor to the UAE’s strategic visions across various sectors,” said Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed, Chairman of the Office of Development and Martyrs’ Families Affairs at the Presidential Court and chairman of Etihad Rail, reported news agency Wam.

“An integrated rail network is an essential aspect of infrastructure within major cities and countries across the globe, and Etihad Rail is playing a similarly significant role in the UAE’s sustainable development.”

Etihad Rail is the GCC’s first railway line that will join the UAE, Oman and Saudi Arabia over a 1,200km network.

The highly-anticipated route will travel from Al Sila to Fujairah including Al Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Dubai, Sharjah, Al Dhaid and Abu Dhabi.

It’s estimated that trains will take 1 hour 40 minutes to move between Abu Dhabi and Sohar, and just 47 minutes to travel from Al Ain to Sohar.

The first stage of the railway network was finished in 2016 and construction of the second part started in 2020.
