Firefighters tackled a blaze on a luxury yacht in Dubai Marina on Tuesday that sent thick smoke billowing over the area's skyscrapers.

Dubai civil defence received the call about a 'moderate' fire in a vessel docked near the Marina Gate buildings at 11:12am, after which crews were seen dousing the flames.

“Firefighters from Dubai Harbor station arrived at 11.18am to tackle the blaze," a Dubai civil defence representative said.

The fire was successfully brought under control at 12:28pm. No injuries were reported.

Crowds stood back as Dubai Civil Defence tenders and crews on the pier calmed the flames.

The interior and exterior of the vessel appeared to be badly damaged.

Several dozen vessels are berthed in the marina, which is used by tour companies and private owners.

The waterside promenade boasts some of the area's most sought-after properties.

Authorities will now hand over the site to the relevant agency for further investigation into the cause of the incident.
