The world’s biggest artificial wave facility in the world is set to open right here in Abu Dhabi later this year.

Located on Hudayriat Island, Surf Abu Dhabi will feature the world’s longest ride, biggest barrel, and largest man-made wave pool.

Aimed at everyone from beginners to pro surfers, it is hoped the facility will host major international events in the near future.

Surf Abu Dhabi was announced as part of Modon Properties’ masterplan for the island, which will span 51 million square metres.

Set to become a true sporting hub, Velodrome Abu Dhabi is also in the pipeline, with a scheduled launch date in 2025.

Home to the first UCI Category 1 indoor cycling track in the region, international tournaments will be hosted here in the near future.

Our favourite part, however, has to be the rooftop track which will wind around the outer walls, offering up views over Hudayriat Island and the Abu Dhabi skyline.

The island as a whole will also have a 220km-long network of cycle tracks.

Aside from Surf Abu Dhabi and Velodrome Abu Dhabi, Hudayriat Island is already the place to be for sports fans, with Trail X, Bike Park and 321 Sports all found here.

Other plans for the island include the largest urban park, home to an elevated cycling track, a mangrove walk, and an eco-farming space.
