Some motorists in the UAE can now face fines for failing to follow lanes at intersections. Violators can face fines of AED400.

Abu Dhabi Police announced the traffic law via a video on Twitter. The video details rules and regulations to be followed by motorists at intersections.

Rules to follow

  • Observe the mandatory lane on the left when turning left at intersections
  • Avoid overtaking and exiting from one lane to another
  • Do not change the direction of your vehicle at intersections
  • Follow what the traffic light indicates
  • Follow the arrows on the road

On Thursday, Arabian Business reported that motorists in Sharjah are now eligible for a 50 percent discount on traffic fines.

The new announcement comes after it was announced earlier this week that motorists in Sharjah who pay fines within 60 days of the offence will receive a discount of 35 percent off the original fee.

In a new update, Muhammad Alai, director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Sharjah Police said that traffic fines will be slashed by half and all impounds and black points for violations before March 31, 2023, will be removed completely.

The early payment offer for Sharjah motorists begins on April 1.
