The initiative, announced on October 23, aims to reduce traffic accidents, improve road safety awareness and encourage responsible behaviour among pedestrians and motorists.

Organised by the General Department of Police Stations in cooperation with the General Department of Traffic, the campaign will see police officers conduct awareness activities across different areas of Dubai.

The initiative focuses on educating road users about traffic regulations, designated pedestrian crossings and the importance of obeying traffic signals, particularly in busy and densely populated areas.

Brigadier Majid Sultan Al Suwaidi, Director of the General Department of Police Stations, said the campaign forms part of Dubai Police’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety and prevent accidents.

He stressed that pedestrians should use designated crossing points, follow traffic signals and remain alert to approaching vehicles when crossing roads.

As part of the campaign, officers and personnel from police stations across Dubai are conducting field visits within their respective jurisdictions to provide practical guidance on safe road crossing.

Motorists are also being reminded to exercise caution, reduce their speed and give way to pedestrians at designated crossings.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Everyone has a role to play in following traffic regulations and helping create safer roads

Dubai Police reiterated that pedestrians who disregard traffic signals or cross roads at undesignated locations face an AED 400 fine under Article 89 of the Federal Traffic Law, as cited in the authority’s announcement.

The warning applies to pedestrians who fail to comply with the specified crossing regulations, highlighting that road safety responsibilities extend beyond motorists.

Al Suwaidi urged pedestrians to ensure roads are clear of approaching vehicles before crossing and to comply with pedestrian signals at intersections.

Drivers, meanwhile, were advised to remain attentive to pedestrian movement and maintain safe speeds, particularly in areas experiencing heavy foot traffic.

The campaign forms part of Dubai Police’s broader efforts to encourage compliance with traffic regulations and reduce the risk of accidents involving pedestrians.

Al Suwaidi also called on residents and visitors to cooperate with the relevant authorities and follow road safety instructions to help protect all road users.
