Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a new partnership with ‘Shamal Holding’, which will see the construction of a new bridge linking Sheikh Zayed Road to Dubai Harbour.

The move is part of the authority’s efforts to enhance the city’s road network infrastructure, and is in line with directives from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Under this agreement, RTA will oversee the construction of a two-lane bridge in each direction spanning 1500 metres, the Dubai Media Office said in a statement on Sunday.

“The project also includes surface improvements at four intersections along the bridge: the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road, the intersection of Al Falak Street with Al Naseem Street, the intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street with Al Naseem Street, and Dubai Harbour Street. When completed, the project will improve the flow of traffic and reduce the travel time from 12 minutes to 3 minutes,” Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA said.

Once complete, the bridge is expected to improve traffic flow and provide direct access to the popular Dubai Harbour district and will accommodate 6,000 vehicles per hour.

Abdulla Binhabtoor, Chief Portfolio Management Officer at Shamal Holding, highlighted the significance of the project, and said: “We are pleased to collaborate with the Roads and Transport Authority to accomplish this strategic project, which represents a major turning point in the development of the Dubai Harbour district.”

Binhabtoor emphasised the project’s alignment with their plans to offer the best-integrated community and expressed gratitude for RTA’s support and cooperation in achieving the future aspirations of Dubai.

Dubai Harbour, situated between Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah, is known for its prime location and iconic landmarks such as the Burj Al Arab and Expo Dubai.

The seafront district offers a wide range of living, retail, and hospitality choices, making it an exceptional lifestyle destination in the emirate.
