The holy month follows the Islamic lunar calendar, meaning its dates change every year on the Gregorian calendar. Because the lunar year is around 11 days shorter than the solar year, Ramadan shifts earlier annually.

Based on current astronomical predictions, Ramadan is expected to begin on Monday February 8, 2027, with the crescent moon expected to be observed on the evening of Sunday February 7.

If the moon is officially sighted, Muslims will perform the first Taraweeh prayers that evening before beginning the first fast the following day.

As with every year, the final decision rests with the UAE’s Moon Sighting Committee and relevant religious authorities, meaning the dates remain provisional until officially announced.

Ramadan lasts either 29 or 30 days, depending on the next moon sighting.

Current forecasts suggest Eid Al Fitr could begin on Wednesday March 10, 2027, although this will also be confirmed closer to the time through the official moon-sighting process.

Unlike holidays that follow the Gregorian calendar, Ramadan is determined by the Islamic lunar calendar, which contains 12 lunar months and totals approximately 354 days.

As a result, Ramadan arrives around 10 to 11 days earlier each year, gradually moving through every season over a cycle of roughly 33 years.
