The Misdemeanors and Violations Court in Dubai has sentenced an African national to one month in jail and ordered his deportation from the country after serving his sentence, besides a fine of Dhs4,000 for his conviction of possessing and selling alcoholic beverages through his vehicle.

Additionally, he was found guilty of the charge of overstaying after his visit visa expired.

The details of the case date back to December 2023 when a police man suspected the African, who was driving a vehicle in Al Rashidiya area, so he stopped him and asked for his identity but the suspect said he did not have an ID because he entered the country on a visit visa in 2019 and had been staying in Dubai illegally, in violation of the residency law.

On being interrogated, the suspect confessed that the vehicle he was driving belonged to a compatriot, who had rented it to him for the purpose of promoting and selling alcoholic beverages.

He also admitted to purchasing the seized items from another emirate and transporting them to Dubai to sell them to victims, adding that he sold the bottle of alcohol for Dhs30 and shared the money with another person who helped him purchase the alcohol.
