Dubai Police is planning to launch a series of AI drones above the city’s streets, which will have the capacity to spot both major crimes underway and minor infringements such as drivers not wearing seatbelts.
According to Defence and Security Middle East, the fully functional AI drone “can take flight autonomously or manually at the press of a button, providing an eye in the sky with a 360-degree birdseye view.”
The publication added: “The drone utilises in-house developed technologies such as 360 degrees situational awareness, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), make model colour (MMC), face recognition (FR), LIDAR Speed enforcement, automated traffic infringements including real-time detection of fastened seatbelts and mobile phones usage whilst driving.
The AI EagleEye Intelligent Patrol technology “is the world’s first lightbar-embedded AI drone, by Dubai Police’s intelligent lightbars developer, Zenith Technologies,” it said.
All information is relayed in real-time to Dubai Police, who can then immediately act.
Full details of the plans are expected to be released in the next two weeks.
