A long-term UAE resident has become the second to win Dh1 million after taking part in the UAE Lottery.

Beauregard Lim from Manila, Philippines, said the win comes amid “financial worries”.

“I was feeling down because of financial worries, and I got in touch with my family for help, but deep inside, I knew I had to find my way. That night, I dreamt of my mother smiling at me. Later, when I checked my phone, I saw a notification: ‘CONGRATULATIONS'. I couldn’t believe it. My wife and I double-checked, and the numbers were all there. It was real!” he said.

Beauregard has become the second million-dirham winner since the launch of The UAE Lottery in November 2024. In January, 41-year-old Indian electrician Peer Muhammad Azam became the first winner of Dh1 million after buying 20 tickets with his friends.

Having lived in the UAE since 2004 and working in the cargo and logistics industry, Beauregard says he felt like a weight had fallen off his shoulder. “This money gives me peace of mind. The stress I carried for years feels like it’s gone now,” he said.

His first priority after winning was to help his family and he plans to invest the money in a business for his son. He also wants to keep a promise he made to his mother: “I always said yes when my family needed help. When my savings ran low, I started saying no, and it hurt me. Now, I don’t have to say no anymore,” he shared happily.

The UAE Lottery grand prize of Dh100 million has remained elusive so far. However, in an earlier interview with Khaleej Times, Bishop Woosley, Director of Lottery at The Game — which operates UAE Lottery — said that it was only a matter of time before someone won it.

“It's a probability game,” he said. “There may be two or three draws in a row where it gets hit, and it may not get hit for a few draws. But yes, absolutely, we've created a game and we believe that someone in the UAE will win the Dh100 million for sure.”

Currently, the odds of winning the jackpot is 1 in over 8 million.

After winning the million, Beauregard said he will continue to play but emphasised responsible gaming. “If you have extra money, play. But always prioritise your family’s needs first. Everything in life should have balance,” he said.

The draw for the UAE Lottery happens every fortnight. The next draw will be held on March 22, 2025.
