President Sheikh Mohamed welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

They discussed bilateral relations between the UAE and Israel and ways to strengthen and develop them, state news agency Wam said on Monday.

The Israeli Prime Minister's Office said on social media that the visit "focused on strengthening relations between the two countries and on regional challenges".

Mr Netanyahu, who was accompanied by his wife, was visiting the UAE after his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York.

The UAE and Israel signed an agreement to normalise relations - known as the Abraham Accords - in September, 2020, in a move aimed at strengthening unity and bringing peace in the Middle East.

The UAE, while seeking to maintain diplomatic ties with Israel, has repeatedly condemned its war in Gaza and continued to pledge significant financial and humanitarian support for the Palestinian people.

In September 2025, the UAE warned Israel that annexation of the occupied West Bank would undermine the vision and spirit of the Abraham Accords and constitute a red line for the country.
