One of the most popular annual stargazing events of the year is happening later this month.
The Leonids meteor shower will be visible from Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE when it reaches its peak on Monday November 17 and Tuesday November 18.
The annual celestial event sees up to 15 meteors per hour travel at speeds of up to 69 kilometres per second.
Meteors – comet debris that hurtles into the atmosphere at great speed – range from sand grain size to pebble-sized and make pretty colourful streaks as they enter the earth’s atmosphere.
While the meteor shower is at its most visible during the middle of November, it is active until Tuesday December 2, according to NASA.
If you can’t make it to the event, or want to try your luck on another night, the Leonids meteor shower is visible throughout the UAE.
