Revealed: New UAE rules for displaying royal family pictures

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has detailed new rules regarding the display of Royal family pictures at Abu Dhabi hotels, as per Circular No. 2/2023.

There are specific rules to be followed while displaying pictures of the Royals, depending on the Emirate, portraits of the Royals have to be displayed in a particular order and only certain approved images can be used.

The circular by Abu Dhabi’s DCT explained, “According to the directives in this regard, we urge you to update the portraits of Their Highnesses the Sheikhs at the soonest.”

To ensure that the correct portraits are displayed and in the right order, random inspections will be carried out. “Please note that the above mentioned establishments will be checked by DCT Abu Dhabi’s inspectors to verify compliance with these instructions,” the circular read.

For those establishments that fail to follow the rules, legal measures will be taken against offenders.

According to the image placement guide, the portraits (in Abu Dhabi) have to be displayed in the following order:

  • Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan
  • Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan
  • Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan
