Dubai has been named the cleanest city in the world for the third year in a row, according to a ranking by the Mori Memorial Foundation of Japan.
The honour was bestowed as part of the organisation’s Global Power City Index.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai shared the news with his more than 11m Twitter followers.
Sheikh Mohammed said the city is the cleanest, safest and most beautiful in the world.
He said: “Dubai is the safest city in the world, the cleanest in the world, and the most beautiful.
“God willing, let us keep it safe, stable and prosperous”.
The Global Power City Index evaluates and ranks the major cities of the world according to their magnetism, or their comprehensive power to attract people, capital, and enterprises from around the world.
It does so through measuring six functions:
- Economy
- Research and Development
- Cultural Interaction
- Livability
- Environment
- Accessibility
Sheikh Mohammed added that: “Cleanliness is civilisation. Cleanliness is culture. Cleanliness is part of faith.”
