Getting home from the airport is about to get a whole lot easier — and more sustainable.
Travellers landing at Abu Dhabi International Airport will soon be able to take flying electric taxis all the way home, it has been announced today.
Yes, you read that right. Abu Dhabi Airports today revealed that it has joined forces with French firm Groupe ADP to develop the new concept of air transportation for both passengers and cargo.
“We are excited to partner with industry-leading group ADP to explore the potential of introducing AAM to Abu Dhabi,” Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports told Arabian Business. “This new system integrates flight technologies with transformational aircraft designs which utilise electric power to hover, take off, and land vertically, enabling sustainability in air transport for both passengers and cargo.”
Group ADP is the company behind the development of three Paris airports — Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly and Paris-Le Bourget, and is active in 125 airports in 50 countries worldwide and operates, directly and indirectly, a network of 29 airports worldwide in 2021.
Flying electric taxis are just one of the many technological advancements potentially coming to the UAE capital. Last week, Abu Dhabi International Airport announced it would replace passport checks with facial recognition technology. The technology is currently in its first phase of testing at the US Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) facility for Etihad flights to the US.
