Aside from picking a holiday destination, the other huge part of planning a getaway could be finding a flight — and a cheap flight at that.
There are many myths (and some truth) on how one should bag the best flight deal.
Booking in advance is widely believed to pay off with a bargain or two, but Expedia has revealed this approach isn’t always economical. However, the day of the week you happen to be online could make all the difference.
“Firstly, we recommend prioritising booking on Sundays to capitalise on potential savings of up to 16 percent compared to booking on a Friday.
“Avoid booking excessively in advance; instead, target the six to twelve day booking window for the potential to save up to 21 percent,” an Expedia spokesperson reported.
The online travel agency also urges potential passengers to consider departing on a Thursday if considering international travel, which often presents lower fares compared to Mondays.
Finally, be mindful of the month of travel. January typically offers the most economical fares for economy class tickets while July provides the best value for premium class travel on average.
It’s not only being about in the right place at the right time that can contribute to a great deal: “Travellers may consider flights departing during off-peak hours, such as between 9pm and 3am, which tend to have lower cancellation rates.
“Flexibility with airport selection, exploring connecting flights, and monitoring budget airlines can also contribute to cost savings,” Expedia reports.
